Being a Single and a Single Parent

So, being a single parent isn't enough work.  Now add on top of that the human desire to love and be loved.  Some of us choose to date, others don't.  But, all of us deal with the consequences of being single.  For some of us, the silence in the house when the kids aren't around can be deafening.  Questions we may have to face include:

- is it ok to be lonely?
- should I date?
- should I tell the kids that I'm dating?
- should I let the kids meet the people I'm dating?
- how physical should a dating relationship be?

For some, dating is easy.  For others, just the thought of having to date again is emotionally crippling.

One of the hardest things for me during the separation was letting and expecting God to fill much of the void (left by the divorce) with his love.  Some of the void was filled by life long friends and through the relationships developed at Colonial and within Parents Without Partners.  Without a doubt, we are social beings and crave relationships with others.

Having said all of this, we're going to try and add resources and commentary for and written by other single parents and people with a burden for singles.  Don't be afraid to ask the tough questions.  Someone here may have an answer or at least a different perspective.  Click Here to go directly to the singles discussion forum.

Click Here to visit The Power of Passion site, a book by Rob Eagar all about what it means to be single and dating.

Go Here to search the NC Records to see if someone has been convicted in NC before you go out with them.  No charge to do the search.  I'm not sure how exhaustive or up to date the search is though.
